    (1)Induction Heating

Induction heating is a non-contact heating process which utilizes the principle of electromagnetic induction to produce heat inside the surface layer of a work-piece. By placing a conductive material into a strong alternating magnetic field, electrical current can be made to flow in the material thereby creating heat due to the I2R losses in the material. In magnetic materials, further heat is generated below the Curie point due to hysteresis losses. The current generated flows predominantly in the surface layer, the depth of this layer being dictated by the frequency of the alternating field, the surface power density, the permeability of the material, the heat time and the diameter of the bar or material thickness. By quenching this heated layer in water, oil or a polymer based quench the surface layer is altered to form a martensitic structure which is harder than the base metal.

    2Quenching / Tempering

Our quench and temper process ensures that bars are individually heated to the quenching temperature in a computer controlled austenitizing furnace. When our bars travel through the furnace, they are continually rotated to provide even exposure to each phase of the heat treatment cycle. Moving directly from the austenitizing furnace, the bars enter an encircling (360 degree) water quench. This rapid quench creates a uniform hardness range throughout the length, circumference, and cross section of the bar. After quenching, the bar moves to our tempering furnace where the computer controlled tempering system enables us to meet our customers’ mechanical properties.

    (3)Anneal & Normalize

Shanghai Smartjet uses eleven-stage, computer controlled roller hearth furnaces to anneal, normalize, temper, and stress relieve steel products. Our annealing, normalizing, tempering, and stress relieving furnaces are multi-zoned and computer controlled to give us the temperature control needed to meet the highest quality standards in the industry and ensures that our customers’ requirements are met time after time.

    (4)Preheating

Our proper preheating service minimizes thermal shock in flame cutting and significantly reduces the likelihood of stress cracking.

    5Stress Relieve

The process of heating to a suitable temperature, holding long enough to reduce residual stresses, and then cooling slowly enough to minimize the development of new residual stresses.
